Harvard Expert's Jaw-Dropping Discovery of GPT-4's Medical Genius and Its Ethical Dilemma!"

In the forthcoming book "The AI Revolution in Medicine," Dr. Isaac Kohane, a computer scientist and physician at Harvard, along with co-authors Carey Goldberg and Peter Lee, explore the capabilities of OpenAI's GPT-4 in a medical setting.

The book reveals that GPT-4 performs exceptionally well in answering US medical exam licensing questions and effectively translates medical jargon into layman's terms. GPT-4 can also offer doctors advice on bedside manner and summarize lengthy reports quickly. Kohane describes a clinical thought experiment in which GPT-4 correctly diagnosed a rare 1 in 100,000 condition in seconds.

However, the book also highlights that GPT-4 is not always reliable and lacks ethical judgment. Despite this, the authors suggest that GPT-4 has the potential to improve clinical practices by freeing up clinicians' time.

🧮 What is the future of AIducation?

Duolingo, the language-learning app, uses sophisticated AI systems, including one called Birdbrain, to enhance the learning experience.

Birdbrain uses algorithms based on educational psychology and machine learning to personalize lessons. Duolingo aims to achieve the "2-sigma" effect identified by Benjamin Bloom, where students tutored individually perform two standard deviations better than those in a classroom. Birdbrain estimates the difficulty of each exercise and the proficiency of the learner to optimize engagement and learning.

The second version of Birdbrain uses a recurrent neural network (LSTM) model, representing a learner's knowledge as a 40-dimensional vector, enabling richer personalization. With over 50 million active learners completing about 1 billion exercises daily, Duolingo is expanding to cover childhood literacy and third-grade mathematics. The goal is to emulate the qualities of great teachers and reach more learners through technology, while continuously optimizing learning and adapting to different teaching approaches that work for each learner.

The AI-driven personalization approach used by Duolingo's Birdbrain has the potential to transform education in several significant ways:
